moved into a basement bedroom with one tiny window and was bracing for a sad space. one small lamp later and its actually one of my favorite rooms.
Pre-war NYC apartment with a wide radiator cover under the window. The little opal dome fills that whole ledge with warm light.
Bought as a housewarming gift for my brother. Liked it so much I ordered one for myself the same day.
Two and a half pounds does not sound like much until it is in your hand. The sphere base is dense enough that it stays put when I fumble for the switch half asleep.
it takes up almost no room on the nightstand. fits behind the alarm clock with space left over and still lights the whole corner.
I keep it on the bureau in the guest room, where it throws a soft circle of light up the wall. The opal dome is beautifully finished and the glass sphere has a proper weight to it. It has behaved impeccably since March, and guests always remark on it.
Three separate people have asked whether it is vintage. It is not. I have stopped correcting them.
Running the 4W G9 it dims all the way down with no flicker and no buzz at the bottom of the range, which is more than the last two lamps I returned managed. Glass seams on the dome are clean, no visible mould line where the dome meets the base.
The glossy base catches the daylight, so it still looks like something even when it is switched off. I move it between the desk and the shelf and it suits both spots. Easy to be pleased with.
I scrolled for about four months before buying this, mostly because everything else at this size looked like it came out of an office supply catalogue, and I had more or less given up on the whole project. Then this turned up in a box smaller than my shoe. Set it on the shelf beside the record player and it looks like it was made for that exact spot. Ordered a second one for the hall two weeks later, which I think tells you where I landed.
Small, heavy, properly made. No notes.
